PHILADELPHIA, PA – On Thursday, September 15th, 2011 clothing designer and entrepreneur Sarah Van Aken along with ScissorCandy LLC. hosted SA VA Rediscovered Roots Fall Fashion Show and Community Street Fair to debut her fall 2011 line from SA VA, her ethical and distinctive line of women’s ready-to-wear apparel. Fresh from celebrating their 2nd year of locally-made, sustainable fashion in Philadelphia, SA VA set to showcase a comprehensive collection of what they do best: flattering silhouettes, draping and specialty hand dying. Van Aken’s third-annual Fall community fashion runway show and street fair took place on the 1700 block of Sansom Street in Philadlphia, and included a 30-look runway show on a catwalk down the center of the street, surrounded by vending tables from neighbors and sponsors and a DJ. There was also a live musical performance by electric violinist, Caryn Lin, during the runway show. A raffle was also held to benefit The Susan G. Komen foundation, in which attendees had the chance to win one of several amazing prizes including a 5 class card from Wake Up Yoga , a gift basket from Arbonne all-natural skincare and cosmetics and La Colombe Torrefaction coffee.
“This runway show, this season is about rediscovering where I came from and what we do best. Fashion that is easy, sexy, and evocative but also reconnecting with the sustainable way of living I grew up with on my grandparents farm and how that directly connects to our mission to grow the local economy through the apparel industry,” says Van Aken
Van Aken is the owner of SA VA (1700 Sansom Street), her Center City flagship store, design studio and adjacent garment center. The store features her signature line of women’s ready-to-wear apparel; her own, custom-designed jewelry; and local and fair trade accessories.
